The violinist Guillaume Chilemme and the pianist Nathanaël Gouin have imagined a schubertian sunny program. If the Viennese composer usually touches us with the tragic echoes of his language, here, though, he delights us with the vital and smiling energy.
The disc opens on a musical meeting with friends, exactly like the one that preceded the composition of the Quintet in A major. Nicknamed “The Trout”, the work indeed picks up its fourth movement’s melody to the eponymous lied. This score is not a traditional quintet for piano and string quartet but for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. It creates a summer climate that doesn’t fade afterwards.
In fact, the program then becomes more intimate with the Fantasia for violin and piano in C major. The same pleasant atmosphere bathed in sun emerges. Here again, the instruments draw their lyricism from the inexhaustible voice of Schubert, Lied’s father.
The wanderings of Schubert's inspiration pass through the paths of fantasy – the German Phantasie refers to the realm of imagination and dream – and meet those of friendship in music. A territory where Guillaume Chilemme, Nathanaël Gouin and their guests give free rein to the inventions of their complicity.
Le duo que forment le violoniste Guillaume Chilemme et le pianiste Nathanaël Gouin a concocté un programme schubertien tout en lumière. Si le compositeur viennois nous touche souvent par les résonances tragiques de son discours, c’est ici par l’énergie vitale et souriante de son écriture qu’il nous enchante.
Le disque s’ouvre sur une réunion musicale entre amis, exactement comme celle qui préluda à la composition du Quintette en la majeur. Surnommé « La Truite », l’œuvre emprunte le matériau mélodique de son quatrième mouvement au lied du même nom. Cette partition au climat estival n’est pas un traditionnel quintette pour piano et quatuor à cordes mais pour piano, violon, alto, violoncelle et contrebasse.
Le programme se resserre ensuite autour d’une œuvre plus intime, la Fantaisie pour violon et piano en ut majeur. Une même atmosphère plaisante et baignée de soleil s’en dégage. Là encore les instruments puisent à la source intarissable du lyrisme du père du lied.
Les tours et détours de l’inspiration de Schubert se perdent sur les chemins de la fantaisie – qui, en allemand, renvoie au domaine de l’imaginaire et du rêve – pour mieux se retrouver sur celui de l’amitié en musique. Un territoire où Guillaume Chilemme, Nathanaël Gouin et leurs invités donnent libre cours aux inventions de leur complicité.
